My favorite type of coin for collecting has to be any gilded coin. It does not matter if it has a Dragon, a Snake, a Bear or whatever minted on it, just as long as it has the 24-carat gold device. I just love the way that 24-carat gold device looks setting on the silver field. This give a coin a more pronounced character than the original rendition does.
Understand, I do have and collect all types of 1 oz silver bullion coins from around the world, but gilded coins are my favorite.
Now with all of that is said, I am very happy to see that the Royal Canadian Mint has announced that they will be selling the “2013 Australian Silver Koala 1 oz Gilded Coin”. Yes, I will be able to buy this coin directly from the mint. I will not have to go through a 3rd party retailer to buy this coin at this time. Not that there is anything wrong with 3rd party retailers, I buy from them all the time. It’s that I like purchasing directly from any mint that offers a coin whenever I get a chance.
